Back in May 2018 I took the Facilitator Development Online (FDO) course through BCcampus. It was great to get a sense of what it would be like to facilitate the FLO courses and to see the courses from a different perspective.
Later that month at the Festival of Learning I bumped into Sylvia Currie and we chatted about the FDO. Sylvia floated the idea of me co-facilitating a FLO course and I was definitely intrigued. Fast-forward to August 2018 – I took Sylvia up on her offer and was paired up with Ross McKerlich to co-facilitate FLO fundamentals in October 2018.
Over the last few months Ross, Sylvia and I have been getting ready to deliver the course. One of the key things that has helped has been a checklist of tasks that need to be done both before the course is offered and then while the course is running. Ross introduced me to a task organization tool called MeisterTask. This tool has been great for organizing what we need to do, who is doing what and when.
Ross and I have done several chats through collaborate to make sure we have everything covered. Our last chat (Sunday morning) was excellent – we looked at the week ahead and went over the slides Ross had put together for the first synchronous session.
MeisterTask sends reminders about what needs to be done and what has been done which is awesome. In addition I have been entering tasks I need to do into my work calendar which is not only a good way to make sure I remember but also means I have time blocked off to actually do the task!
